Ceremony celebrates two decades of remembrance

Local residents and officials gather to pay respects

On June 29, 2003, Stourbridge War Memorial celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special ceremony. The event brought together local residents and officials to commemorate the memory of those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts around the world.

The ceremony began with a reading from the Bible, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. Wreaths were laid by the Mayor of Stourbridge, Councillor John Tipper, and representatives from the Royal British Legion, the armed forces, and local schools.

In his speech, Councillor Tipper said that the war memorial is a reminder of the sacrifices made by so many people in the name of freedom. He also thanked the volunteers who have worked to maintain the memorial over the years.

The ceremony concluded with a minute's silence, followed by the singing of the national anthem.

The 20th anniversary of Stourbridge War Memorial is a reminder of the importance of remembrance. The memorial is a place where people can come to pay their respects to those who have served and sacrificed, and to learn about the history of conflict.
