Boris Johnson Warns Against Ukraine-Russia Peace Deal

British Prime Minister Warns Against Deal That Could Compromise Ukrainian Sovereignty

Zelensky Must Not Be Pressured Into Concessions, Says Johnson

In a speech delivered in Kyiv on June 25, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned against any peace deal between Ukraine and Russia that could compromise Ukrainian sovereignty. Johnson's comments come amid ongoing negotiations between the two countries, which have been at war since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.

“There is absolutely no sign that Putin is interested in peace and he is continuing to wage a brutal war against the Ukrainian people,” Johnson said. “We must not pressurize the Ukrainians into a bad peace or a premature peace. They must be able to defend themselves and their country.”

Johnson's comments were echoed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that Ukraine would not give up any of its territory in a peace deal with Russia. "We will not trade our freedom, our sovereignty, our territorial integrity," Zelensky said.

The negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have been ongoing for several weeks, but there has been little progress. Russia has demanded that Ukraine cede territory in the east of the country, while Ukraine has insisted on the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.

The war in Ukraine has caused a humanitarian crisis, with millions of people displaced and thousands killed. The fighting has also had a significant impact on the global economy, leading to rising energy prices and food shortages.
